Wealthier households, frequently gaining from investments and home equity, have experienced substantial improvements over recent years. Middle-income households gained just 2.3%, while lower-income workers experienced a 1.4% increase—well below inflation. Retail trends further reflect these dynamics. While stores catering to higher-income shoppers have seen steady sales, outlets focusing on value-conscious consumers, such as Walmart and Costco, are thriving, indicating that many Americans are adjusting to tighter budgets and prioritizing cost-saving measures.
